Fresh italian food Much much better than the rest But no fake plants please (This restaurant just opened up in February 2008, and I pray to the heavens that it stays open! The pasta dishes are between $9-15, and are SIGNIFICANTLY better than any other pasta in this city. Much of the pasta is homemade, which is a rare find in North Dakota. Truly, this place could be a real gem for Grand Forks! My only complaints: 1) Fake plants have NO place in any restaurant 2) The fake wood panels in the back of the restaurant MUST GO 3) A little more work needs to be done to make the place 'cozy'. It's a little stark, even for my taste (I usually like minimal decor). All in all, this is one restaurant in GF that you SHOULD try! If they address the three issues listed above, I'll be HAPPY to bump Giuseppe's up to 5 stars!!!)

We had dinner with my family. I'm always somewhat skeptical of Italian restaurants in the Midwest. But thought it would be fun to give it a try. We all had pasta with each dish we ordered and all had a good flavor. But why can't Italian restaurants cook pasta al dente?? The pasta is always overcooked even though the sauce can be great. A mushy pasta screws up the whole dish! The bread and dipping sauce, vino, service and flavor of the food were great but the pasta needs help! Great ambiance and menu but don't overcook your pasta!!

Meh. Definitely overpriced for what you get. I had the shrimp pasta dish, which was pretty meh. It tasted like there was cumin in the red sauce, which I thought was odd. The flavor profile just seemed off. The waiter was nice enough, but I just don't think the food was very good. I would rather go to Mama Maria's, I don't really have any desire to go back here.

The flavor of the food was fairly bland. The chicken Marsala was terrible. It was basically a frozen chicken breast in a Marsala wine soup with pasta.

Love the food here and hope it stays around. Lunch menu is an especially good buy.

My children visited this restaurant twice before and raved about the food. I decided to go there for my birthday earlier this week. We arrived around 7pm to a full house. The temperature inside was both hot and humid. We waited a few minutes before being acknowledged by one of the wait staff. She took my name and told me it would be a bout a 15 minute wait. We sat on one of the benches near the door. After close to 15 minutes, we were seated at a table and given menus. In that amount of time three larger (4 or more) groups left and the restaurant was much emptier. The wait for our drink orders seemed long for the number of parties still at the restaurant. There are approximately 10 tables in the entire facility. It didn't take too long for our drinks to come to the table and our order was taken at that time. More than 10 minutes later, our salads arrived just as we ordered them. At this point, we had no napkins or table service of any kind. The waiter dropped our salads and left the table before we could request this. So we sat with the salads in front of us with no way to eat them until I could flag down our server and request table service. He went to the back of the restaurant and wrapped forks and knives in napkins for us. The salad was tasteless. It was my first indication that high quality ingredients are not used here. Every entree is supposed to come with bread and salad, but they were running low on bread. It took another 10 minutes to receive that. Again, no bread plates were provided and I had to flag down the other server to request bread plates. After another long wait, our food finally arrived. My youngest son ordered the child's order of Penne with meatball. He received spaghetti with a meatball. Since it was well past 8pm at this point, I asked if he would mind just eating that instead of waiting for them to boil up some penne instead. He grudgingly agreed. My oldest son ordered lasagne and after a few bites showed me it was still frozen in the center. My Penne a la Vodka was passable, but tepid. By the time our server returned to ask how the meal was, we were all ready to leave. I asked for the check and assured him we did not need to box any of the food up. The place itself is extremely noisy. There is nothing to keep the sounds from echoing off the walls and hard floors. There was water spilled on the floor that I slipped in on the way to the bathroom. The walls are a dark brown and the lighting is dim (which one expects from an evening dining facility) so I didn't see the water on the floor. The server was friendly to all in the restaurant and always responded with a smile. His attitude and friendliness was the shining light in an otherwise dismal dining experience. Later that evening, I became violently ill. My son got sick earlier in the evening after we left. We're both certain it was something we ate at Giuseppe's. I would not recommend this place to anybody.

Dinner was quite good, but service was pretty poor. I'm not a fan of having to hunt down staff to get my water refilled. Also when I go to an Italian restaurant I expect freshly grated Parmesan, I think they manage that even at the olive garden. I expected more.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
